Wildflowers

I don't know if you call these wildflowers or wildweeds, but aren't they cute? I made this miniature arrangement in an egg cup last night after me and Hubby went walking. It was so nice out today with the sun finally shining. It was 70 degrees here. It has been raining and cold for 5 days, so we were so glad to see the sun. Maybe Spring is finally here!

Grandma's Cookie Jar

This is my Grandma's cookie jar that I inherited, or stole according to my sister, but anyway.....Grandma would bake these huge sugar cookies for Tina and I almost everyday. This cookie jar is where she always kept them, so after school we would rush to the cookie jar for one or most of the time two cookies. She never wrote down the recipe and Mama has tried several times to recreate it, but she still hasn't mastered the recipe. As far as we know, it could be the very same, but somehow things just tasted better when you were little. I know you don't belive me, because Grandma passed away 29 years ago, but I promise you, that cookie jar still smells like those cookies!

Wrong Paint Color!!

Well, yeah, we're still painting the kitchen....Week 2...I painted the door leading to the basement, and guess what....with the wrong paint!!!!!! When we bought our paint for the trim, we also bought Travis some paint for some touch-ups in his room. Well, his paint is white and our paint is honeymilk, which is almost white. I had made a comment while I was painting that this looked really white, but I didn't check the paint can. Finally, after I finished, Hubby checked it and told me the bad news....then I told him the bad news that he could re-do it, cause of course it's his fault!!! Well, I am getting new hardware out of it. I just can't put that ugly old brass door knob back on....So now I'm in search of something pretty (I say, with an eye-roll from Hubby).

New Sign

I got this cute sign last night at the Cracker Barrel. I can't wait until I get my kitchen painted so I can hang it up!!!! I'm really really really impatient.

Easter Marbles

These look like eggs but they're actually marbles. They were my Grandpa's when he was little, so they are probably 100 years old by now. Imagine that! I've never seen marbles this big. They measure about 1 1/2", except the small blue one. My aunt was going to throw them away, but I asked for them...Lucky me!!

I love the sound of marbles
scattered on the worn wooden floor,
like children running away in a game of hide-and-seek......

Outdoor Wednesday

I am participating in Outdoor Wednesday at A Southern Daydreamers blog. You should go by and see other states in bloom this time of year! Here are some pictures that Hubby took of a squirrel. They look like they are playing hide and seek with each other!!!

Tina's Kitchen

Here are some pictures of my sister, Tina's, kitchen. She just finished a re-do herself. It used to be decorated with a fruit theme, but this is so much prettier! She found her rugs at Belk, but most of the decor came from Jerry's in Elkin.

It is a bright, cheery white, but now she wants to change the cabinet knobs to black. She just has to find the perfect ones....

The paint is called Amber Waves by Benjamin Moore and I love the black and white checked floor that they installed.

She is going to paint the bar stools black .....whenever her hubby gets around to it. I think he's pretty sick of painting....

Meet the famous Robbie Rooster! You'll have to read my Doctor Appt. post. It's pretty funny. He is the one that I rode around all day buckled in the passenger's seat, that I found for my sister at Home Goods. It's hard to tell in the picture, but he is huge! Oh, the things we do for our sister's!!!! Hope you enjoyed the tour of her kitchen.....

Daddy's Birthday

Today was my daddy's 76th birthday. I can't believe he's that age! He was always our summer league softball coach growing up. We took him out to eat and then back to their house for cake. Here are the grandkids with him.
Then, me, Tina and Mama. Happy Birthday Daddy!

10th Met Monday

I am participating in the 10th Met Monday from Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. We started painting our kitchen on Saturday. Well, the hallway that leads to the kitchen anyway. We finally got rid of that sponge paint from 6 years ago. Yay!!! I can tell that this is gonna be a long process, with a lot of painting to do. It's hard to tell in these pictures, but this is the hallway coming in from the garage that turns immediately to your right into the kitchen. It was hard to get a good shot, but hopefully you can get an idea. More later.......

New Light Switches

I've always wanted some of these switches. I just think they're fancy. So while I had to make a run to Lowe's to get some "new white" switches, because of course, now the "old beige" switches no longer match the new white trim, look what I found! I luv them...that's what he gets for sending me. Good thing Hubby is electrically inclined!

Kitchen Re-Do

The kitchen renovation has begun.....Let's see how long this takes. I figured if I documented this, it might go faster. Both of us work full-time jobs, so we can only work at night and on weekends. Hopefully we can accomplish alot this weekend. We are starting with the hallway coming in from the garage, which is small, so it shouldn't take too long for this section. The boy and I taped everything last night and Hubby painted the baseboards. I have a feeling that everything I took down somehow will not be making its way back up. Of course the hubs said, "Oh great, that means that you'll be buying MORE stuff!" He knows me so well, after 25 years!!!

1st Day of Spring

It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!

Shopping of course!!!!

As you know, I'm in the process of re-doing the house. We are getting ready to paint the kitchen (start painting the kitchen) this weekend. I am painting it Tobacco Road...a color I found from The Nester's blog. Here are a few items that I picked up last week. I got the basket with the star on it at Jerry's....my favorite store in Elkin. They had 1 there last week and this lady beat me to it, so I followed her around the store hoping that she would lay it down but she didn't. Penny told me that she might could get me another one. Well, guess what? She did! When we went in there Saturday, she had me one. Come to find out, I was more obvious than I thought, because that lady told her that she knew I was watching her and waiting for her to put it down. Sounds like I'm a stalker. The welcome sign I picked up at Home Goods, another one of my favorite stores for only $10.00. Then I found the wreath at CVS on sale for $6.00 but I had $5.00 extra bucks, so I only paid $1.00. I just love bargains! I also found the cookbook holder at Home Goods for $10.00. The Mary Engelbreit book (Luv her) was only $6.00 at the consignment store. Stay tuned for more......

Feeding Time

I'm participating in Susan's Outdoor Wednesday. These are pictures of a robin and her babies at feeding time. She had built the nest on top of a wreath on my front porch last spring. We couldn't use the front door for weeks, because she became quite angry with us everytime we went outside. The last shot looks like they got their bellies full and it's nap time.

Looks like I won't be getting pinched today....Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

9th Met Monday

I'm participating in the 9th Met Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. I've been wanting to change the shelves over my desk in the kitchen for quite sometime now, so I finally decided to do it. It's still a work in progress, but I did change some things. I couldn't give up my Mary Englebreit magazines, since it is out of publication now. They go back to 1997, but they still have good ideas in them. I also had to keep my Grandma's cookie jar. She always kept sugar cookies in there that she made for me and my sister after school. It still smells like them 30 years later! The rest of the items were from "shopping" around the house. Of course I had to get Hubby involved to drill me a hole for my house light. That came with the ususal eye roll along with a lecture about putting "another" hole in something. Why does he even bother......he knows how I am!

Vintage Tee

I received this new tee in the mail today and I luv it!! I ripped open the package and put it on immediately...didn't even iron it! I ordered it from Sherry over at Glamarella Junk. You'll have to go check it out. She has different styles to chose from. Thanks Sherry!

Friday the 13th

What better way to brighten up a cold, rainy Friday the 13th, but with a new pair of shoes....pink, at that! I have never had a pair of pink shoes before, so now I will have to build an outfit around them. I'll let you know the final results.....this should be interesting!!

Easter Candy Dish

I bought this cute little bunny candy dish yesterday at CVS. It was only $5.00, but with my $3.00 extra bucks, I got it for $2.00. I took a picture of it empty first, because I couldn't decide if he's climbing in to get candy or climbing out because he ate it all. Anyway, you decided! It's full of easter M&M's right now, but that won't last long.........

Routine Doctor's Visit

What was supposed to be a routine doctor's visit turned into an all-out shopping spree yesterday! I just HAD to run by Ross where I picked up this cute Raggedy Ann doll for 6.00 and the cute chair she is sitting in for 7.00. I picked her up and then put her down, but she just kept looking at me, so I HAD to bring her home. Then I HAD to go next door to Home Goods where I found this cute wire basket to hold my Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. Imagine that, they just fit in it! Then I HAD to have this cute Spring sign for my front door for a mere 6.00. I found my sister a GIANT ceramic rooster for her kitchen island that I will show later, because she is in the process of redoing also. I rode him around strapped in the passenger set all afternoon...that's how big he was! We named him Robbie the Rooster. Then I HAD to stop by the local consignment shop where I found this cute little house with a light in it for only 3.00 and this americana basket for 6.00. Imagine someone leaving them there! I thank them whoever they are! Anyway, just a checkup for me turned into an afternoon of bargain shopping, oh and for my sister too. I kept finding things for her new kitchen and texting pictures to her to see if she wanted them. You should have seen the look on her husband's face when I rolled in with that big bird. PRICELESS!!!

Three or More Tuesday

I am participating in Three or More Tuesday on the Gypsy's Corner. I bought this canister set at Kirkland's back in my traditional decorating days and I started to put them away when I started my redo. Instead, I just tied some fabric around them and tried to "countrify" them. Hope it worked! They are usually filled with chocolate but not anymore. I need to make a run to re-stock.

Caramel Creams

I love these!! I used to eat these all the time when I was a little girl, and I still do, but just different now. Back then, I would punch out the tiny white center and just eat the caramel. Now I eat the center and leave the carmel because I'm afraid that it will pull a filling out of one of my teeth. My how things change when you get older.....
