60 Year Old Shelf

This is a shelf that my Uncle Allen made in high school back in the 40's. He was killed in a car accident when he was just 16, so this means a lot to me. You can see that it's not cut out exactly even, but it still doesn't matter. He was just a kid. I painted it and hung it in my kitchen. Hubby thinks it needs another coat of paint, but I told him I was going for the distressed look. He thinks I've accomplished it he said! All I need now is a knob for the drawer.

  1. It's nice to see you placed your uncles shelf in a place of honor. Your sign says it all. Blessings.

  4. Gina, it is simply awesome! My dh made a stool back in highschool so we're a little protective of it. I'm tryin to convince him to have it repainted and resealed, but it's up to him... The sign you have up on it is perfect considering it is nothing short of a kind act on your part to keep something your uncle made part of your life now. I hope it lasts another sixty years!

Just quickly visiting- finals you know. But I've got the Cracker Barrel finds as my tablescape!

  5. That's really neat. I have a table my brother made who passed away from a rare type of cancer. It's actually what my computer is on, so I use it everyday and I will always hold onto it! Looks like your shelf fits in very nicely with your home!
