The Miracle on the Hudson plane came through our county recently. It was exciting to see. It was being taken to its new home at the Aviation Museum in Charlotte, NC. Standing next to it was just amazing to see how all of those people survived! God was definitely with them!!

It snowed again, yesterday, here in North Carolina! Don't get me wrong. I LOVE IT! It was also my son's birthday. He was born in the snow 23 years ago and now, it snowed again! It was a nice birthday present for him. Here are a few shots that I took. I also took a picture of our flag at work, flown at half staff for the victims of the Tucson shooting. My son turns 23 on 1-11-11! How great is that? He was born in the middle of a snowstorm and now it's snowing 23 years later on his birthday. He has made us so proud and is the joy of our lives!!

I went to the dentist today and this is what I got to look at while I waited patiently in the dentist chair. All of the rooms have glass walls overlooking the tooth-pond, which is frozen at the moment. The birds were everywhere, because they had just filled the bird feeders. I especially like the cardinals. First Snowfall

HELP! I am having trouble with the "shrink to fit" button on my header. Sorry, that's why my header looks that way. Is anyone else having trouble with their picture fitting in the header? Any help would be appreciated! In the meantime, we had our first snowfall of the season today. It was beautiful! Here are just a few shots that we took right before it got dark.

Chicken Stew

Well it's that time of year again, at least here in the South, when the chicken stews start. It HAS to be cold outside for starters. These are the requirements: Giant pot of chicken stew, boxes of crackers, marshmallows to roast and a table big enough outside to seat everyone! We had ours outside at Mama's house recently. She fixed the stew and we provided the crackers and marshmallows. We had so much fun! My son and niece had a marshmallow toss. Evidently, they go further when they are on fire!! Outdoor Wednesday - Anniversary Trip

We recently had our 26th wedding anniversary and took a trip to the mountains. We went to Buck Mountain, which is near Boone, NC. The weather was absolutely beautiful and so was the cabin that we stayed in. We rode 4 wheelers and had a picnic lunch beside a pond. We also found a waterfall that was really beautiful. Later that afternoon, we drove on into Boone and Blowing Rock and shopped and ate supper. We had so much fun that weekend! We are definitely going back!! Usually I'm looking for something for the house to show, but recently a new consignment shop opened close by and I have found the best deals in there, so I thought that I would share a few with you. I did buy other items, but so far, these are the only two that I have worn so far. I don't know about ya'll, but it's really, really hard to take a picture of yourself!!! Of course, the two times I did this, I was all by myself, so I had to make do, but I think you can see them pretty good. I bought this cardigan, that has the cutest embellishments on it for only $6.00. I couldn't believe the price! Then I found this t-shirt with the giant fleur-de-lis on it for only $5.00!! I was so proud of myself. Like I said, I did buy some more items, but I will post them as I wear them later on.

Under the Crepe Myrtle

I moved my white chairs off the front porch and put them under my crepe myrtle tree out by the driveway. I thought they would be pretty sitting under the tree and to relax in the shade. Boy was I wrong....it's 100 degrees here in the south and no tree has enough shade from the sweltering heat, so for now, they are just for looks!!!! As of yesterday at 2:30 pm, I have officially become a Great Aunt. My niece had a little boy yesterday, and needless to say, we are sooooo excited!!! They named him Eli and he's such a cutie patootie!!! Hubby has been singing that song from the 70's by Three Dog Night..."Eli's Coming" for months and now he's finally here!! We can't wait to spoil him!

Summer Tomatoes

I don't know about ya'll, but I am so looking forward to Fall!! This 100 degree weather is about to get the best of me! In the meantime, are ya'll over-run with "these"!! We have tomatoes everywhere! We usually only have 3 plants, but this year, we have 5. The funny thing is Hubby is the only one that eats them...and let me tell ya, he eats them...every night for supper. Whether it is a tomato sandwich smothered in mayo, salt and pepper, or he'll just slice one and eat it with whatever else he's eating. So now, we're feeding the neighbors, family, co-workers, church people and anybody else to wants them. Happy Friday!!!

Tiny Bunny

I came home the other day and found this tiny bunny sitting on the sidewalk. It didn't even move...just sat there. Hubby went and got the camera and took its picture. I think it was pretending that it was a statue!! It's living in the bushes in front of our house and comes out to play everyday. I still haven't seen the Mama, but I'm sure she's in there somewhere. It's sooo cute!

New Hairband

Well, I went and did it!!! I bought me a hairband, headband, thingy with a big flower on it. I haven't wore a hairband since my 2nd grade dance recital!!!...and trust me...that was a longggggggg time ago! But, when I was at the beach several weeks ago, I saw it on a table on the way out of the mall. I tried it on, put it back down, tried it on again and put it back down, and tried it on again. Then my sister came around the corner and saw it on me and busted out laughing, so I put it back down again!!! Then when we got to the car, I said I really liked that hairband. She said well go get it. So I did...even if she did laugh at me!! I love it! There's so much freedom, feeling like a kid again, even if it's just by wearing a hairband. Today, I'm joining up with Chatting at the Sky for Tuesday's Unwrapped, because this small thing, just makes me happy!

Auction Deal

My mama's best friend moved to Florida this weekend and had an auction at her house to sell the remaining items. We went over there the night before and the only thing that I saw that I wanted was an old white chair that was sitting on the front porch. I couldn't go to the auction on Saturday, but sent Hubby and my son. I told him to bid on the chair. He called and said are you sure you want this thing...it's falling apart! I told him it wasn't to sit in, it was for looks! Well, when the time came to bid on the chair, they put everything that was on the front porch together. He got all of this for $15.00!! The table, "my" chair, two rocking chairs and they made him take the frog since it was on the front porch...LOL!!! I was so excited!!! I put the chairs on my front porch and the table out at the pool. But I brought the chair inside....that's it in my header. I love it! Cloche Party

I've joined Marty over at A Stroll Thru Life for her Summer Cloche Party. I didn't even know what they were called, but I knew that I loved them. They were just "domes" to me!! Then when I started blogging I noticed everyone calling them cloches. I don't even know how to pronounce that...LOL!!!! I only have 2 and they are so fun to decorate for the seasons. The one with the starfish has my Grandpa's marbles, that he used to play with when he was young. They look like eggs but they aren't. These are so big, I don't know how they played marbles with them. Marty needs to host this every season. I get so many wonderful ideas from everyone else.

Outdoor Wednesday - 4th of July 2010

I'm participating with Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday. Bear with me, 'cause this is a lot of pictures! Don't you just love it when people (especially ones you don't know) share their vacation pictures with you???? LOL!!! We always go to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina every year for the 4th of July. This year, we also went to see my aunt, uncle and cousins at Carolina Beach, North Carolina. While we were there, we took a ferry ride from Ft. Fisher over to Southport. We showed the kids where the road at our house ends...some 300 miles later. It goes right into the water. They couldn't believe it!! The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the ride so much!! I was at the front of the boat trying to play Titanic, but it kinda looks like Hubby is trying to push me off instead of hold onto me!!!! We also ate at our favorite mexican restaurant, Abuelo's while we were at Myrtle....and of course, for dessert we had Krispy Kreme. We had a wonderful trip and took a lot of pictures. Tabletop Tuesday

I recently purchased this table at my favorite furniture store, Jerry's, and knew just where I wanted to put it....in the hallway coming into my kitchen. The only problem is that it is kind of dark being in the hall and no outlet to plug in a lamp. How did I let that happen when we were building???? Anyway, I wanted to make it summery-beachy-look, so I put a mason jar of sand on it with one of those little electric tea-lites, so I do have some light...LOL! Then I put a picture of us at the beach last year with a shell that Hubby found there and a cloche with marbles and a star fish. Then the other day, I found this sign that says Barefeet Welcome. White Wednesday - Flower

I recently bought this flower arrangement at Kirkland's. I don't know if everyone has a Kirkland's, but it's one of my favorite stores, especially when they are having a sale! Every so often they will put green stickers on items that are on sale and then an extra 25% off of them. Well, I only paid $6.00 for this arrangement!! I was so excited. I had to look at the price tag twice just to make sure. I really don't have that much white in my house, but I couldn't pass this up. It did brighten up my table though. Nifty Thrifty Tuesday

I'm participating in Nifty Thrifty Tuesday over at Coastal Charm. Yesterday on my way to church I saw this shutter laying in the road. I stopped to get it and Hubby thought I had absolutely lost my mind. Of course, he was the one who had to get out and get it. When he put it in the car, he said that it was broken (which gave it more character) and dirty (nothing that a water hose couldn't wash off). So I brought it home, cleaned it up and set it in a corner in the kitchen. I had this small chair with my bear, that my second grade boyfriend gave me, (yes, that means it's really old) and put a mason jar with some sand and an electric candle in it. I love finding free items laying in the road.....LOL!

Mantel Change

I decided to change my mantel again! This time I have been decorating for the 4th of July. I love the big flag. It's actually a canvas so it's very light-weight. Hubby was glad to see the other picture go, because he thought it was too big for the area anyway. I told him I felt sure that it was going back up there after the 4th, so not to put it in the basement where he couldn't get to it again!! Pink Frame

Today I decided to participate in Pink Saturday over at Beverly's blog - How Sweet the Sound. Afterall, pink is my favorite color. I have pink dresses, pink shoes, pink jewelry, and pink nail polish, but when I started looking around my house....I have no pink in my decorating motifs! Then I remembered this frame that I recently purchased at Home Goods. Did I mention I LOVE that store? It says "The Girls" on it. I saw it and just had to have it, but my first thought was where am I gonna put it! I brought it home and put a picture of me, my sister and my mom in it and it has been several places in the house. But I just loved it for the color and for what it said. I think I need to incorporate more pink in my house....the guys would love that!!!!

Mulch Day

I don't know about where everyone else lives, but it has been soooo hot here. I'm talking about 96 and 98 degrees!!! I think that this is a record for being this hot in June. It feels like August already here in the South!!! Anyway, we've been working on our backyard and decided to mulch an area right behind the house, because it was getting too hard to get to it with the lawnmower. So one Saturday Hubby, Travis and myself decided to get started on it. I hauled the mulch and they did the spreading. It took us ALL DAY, but I do think that it looks much better. We spotted this huge nest in a neighbor's tree and went home and got our camera with the zoom lens so we could get a closer picture. The lady that owned the home passed away and it is currently up for sale. Her daughter had a tree trimming company to come out and trim the huge trees around her driveway and all of a sudden they stopped and left. We haven't seen them since. One day, Hubby and I were walking and he spotted the huge nest. At first he thought it was a falcon, but now he thinks that it is a hawk. Does anyone know? The Water Reservoir

Our county is building a new water reservoir. I'm not really sure why, but I believe that our small town has outgrown the drinking water supply. I'll have to do further investigating. It's really interesting to see the progress that they are making on it. They just finished building the dam and it is HUGE! Here are a few pictures of it. I just made reservations for our summer vacation at Myrtle Beach, SC. We've been going there every summer since I was born (which was a long time ago)! Then I went in Pottery Barn and saw this display. I'm thinking about doing my dining room table like this....LOL! Wisteria Tree

My wisteria tree is finally starting to bloom this year. The frost got it last year and I thought it would surely never come back, but it did! This is one of my favorite trees/bush/vine, or whatever you want to call it. Hubby doesn't like it too well because it grabs on to whatever it can reach and he is all the time cutting it out of one of our other bushes that is has attached itself too. I love changing the look of my front door. I just recently received this arrangement from my best friends when my Dad passed away. I knew right away where I was going to put it! I finally got around to changing my mantel for Spring. Even though it sure doesn't feel like it around here. It's still cool and rainy out. I've never seen such weather here in the South!!! I can't remember from one year to the next how I arrange my mantle for each holiday. So this year when I decorated it, I couldn't even remember what I had on it last year. These are the before and after pics from last year to this year. The top picture is last year and the bottom is now. I found this large picture in my basement that I used to have hanging in my kitchen. Hubby and Travis thought it was WAY too big for this area, but I love it. He just didn't want to hang it!! Let the spray painting begin.....yes, it's that time of year again where it's finally warming up a little outside so we can spray paint everything that we have put off all winter. I think this has got to be the coldest winter that I can ever remember here in the south!!! But it was 60 degrees today, so things are looking up. I bought this shelf for a steal last year at a consignment shop and loved the creamy white color. Of course, that didn't last long. Last week I bought this cute little table at Jerry's Furniture, my favorite furniture store, and found the perfect place in the kitchen. Well it didn't match the shelf, so Hubby sprayed the shelf (against his will, because he didn't think it would look good) Sssshhh, but what does he know....anyway, I love it. I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day and got plenty of candy. Hubby got me a card, candy and flowers! It's been really really cold here today, with snow still on the ground. They are calling for more tonight. I never thought I would say this but I'm ready for spring. I've always been a winter person, but it has snowed so much this year and it's been about too cold to do anything. I've added a picture of my flowers. Today I am participating in Outdoor Wednesday with Susan at A Southern Daydreamer. You should visit when you get a chance to see everyone's Outdoor Wednesday pics. I was going to show pictures of the 2nd major snowfall of the winter, but it looks like everyone else was hit just as hard as we were!! Instead I have just a few shots of a rock quarry near our home. Me and Hubby were, for some reason, I don't know why, talking about rock quarries the other day, and I told him of one close by that we used to go to when we were in high school. I don't know why we used to go up there, probably because there were signs that said No Trespassing. (We were rebels like that, ya know. LOL) So last Saturday, we took a drive up there, if nothing else, just to see if I could still find it! I haven't been there in probably 30 years and guess what? It's still there! Of course Hubby said, well where did you think a giant hole in the ground would have gone? Well I was thinking maybe overgrown and filled in or something. Also, the No Trespassing signs are still there! I wish I would have taken a pic of them also. Someone has built a house right beside of it and the owner was standing out on the porch watching us. We were waiting on him to call the police so I took two quick pics and left. They are not very good but anyway you kinda get the picture!

Word Wall

I ran across these wonderful word walls at Wal-Mart and guess what? They were only $9.99!! I have seen them in Kohl's and other stores for $20.00 and up. I put this one in my kitchen because we just painted it and I still want to repaint the other rooms in the house. Trust me, next time we're hiring somebody....even Hubby agreed. It took us forever just to paint the kitchen and I "NEVER" want to do that again! We built our house 13 years ago and I think the paint colors could use some changing (against Hubby's will), but hey, whatever makes us happy, right?

January Snow

It snowed here again yesterday! This is the second biggest snow that we've had in 6 weeks! It never does that here anymore. Now when I was a little girl, it did. I can remember being out of school for weeks at a time, but it hasn't snowed this much in years!! Don't get me wrong...I love it! Here are a few shots that I took outside this afternoon. They are calling for more snow on Tuesday and again Friday and Saturday. Yay!!! Just as long as it doesn't snow my Super Bowl Party out on Sunday.....

It's still freezing here in the south!! I don't ever remember it being this cold for this long. Today's pictures for Outdoor Wednesday are of frozen water, of course. This is our fountain at Town Hall. You can see that it's definitely working, but the water around it is frozen. It almost looks like bubbles! The other frozen water is at my dentist's office. It's hard to tell in this picture, but it is frozen over. This is the view from the chair, where you can watch the squirrels and birds play and feed, but that day they couldn't get any water. Today is my Mama's birthday. She is 75 years old. She probably doesn't want people to know, but I don't think she looks like it, so I feel like I can say it. Me and my sister are taking her out to lunch today to celebrate and give her her gifts. I can't say what we got her because she reads my blog and it wouldn't be a surprise, so sorry Mama...you have to wait until lunch.

Today is my son Travis' 22nd birthday. I can't believe how fast time as flown!! It was 22 years ago today that he was born in the middle of a major snow storm. I went into labor during the storm and David's mama rode with us to the hospital and timed my contractions, while his daddy followed us in his car, in case ours got stuck. Luckily it didn't! Then my parents and sister and her husband arrived from out of town. They had a 1 1/2 hour trip, but they did make it in the snow. He has grown into such a fine young man and I am so proud of him. I look forward to what the future holds for him and our family!

Well our new year started off with a bang. My niece and her husband announced that they are expecting a baby. She is due in July and they are so excited. Needless to say that we are too! We think it's a girl, and of course, my sister has already started buying things for "her"! This will be such a blessing when "she" gets here and we are all praying that everything goes wonderful for them. So it's definitely been a Happy New Year around here!

Shopping Trip to Wal-Mart

I found the cutest tops today at Wal-Mart. I love decorating, but I think I love shopping more, especially clothes and shoes. So when I find a great deal, I feel the need to share it with others!! These tops, which are called burn-out tops, because you layer them under another top, and they are also quite thin, were on a table marked $8.00. They have almost identical ones at the Buckle store at the mall for $26.50. Anyway, I picked up a few thinking I could use these. Then a lady walked up and said, "Aren't these cute? You know they are marked down to $5.00?" My mouth started watering! Of course, I started digging through the rest of the colors for my size. So I ended up with all 5 colors for $25.00. Now that's a deal....5 tops for 25.00! By the way, they are by Miley Cyrus, but age has no limit on a bargain!

Outdoor Wednesday - Christmas Decorations

Here are some shots of our house decorated for Christmas. These are before and after the snow shots. My husband, whose nickname is Smokey loves to decorate the outside for Christmas. We call him Clark Griswold. Every year he keeps adding something. I never know what he will come home with. The carolers in the front are from a yard sale that he picked up for $1.00 because they wouldn't work. He brought them home and re-wired them and now they are as good as new, even though they're probably 20 years old. He has a sound system in our attic that he has hooked to the carolers so they sound like they're singing. What will he think of next? I'm ready for Christmas and we have just gotten about 8 inches of snow. It really looks like it may be a white Christmas after all, because they are calling for more snow here on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My sister bought the cutest little table and chairs at Pilot Mountain Peddlers. She had looked at them for a while and finally decided to buy them. She knew just where she was going to put them and they fit perfectly. They are really old and looks like a child's table and chairs. She also found the perfect accessories to go on them. It's always fun decorating for Fall!!

Pumpkin Cake

I have been sooooo slack lately about my blogging. I'm too busy on Facebook and Twitter that I've let my blog go, but I'll try to do better. This is a pumpkin cake that Mama made yesterday for lunch. She was so proud of it that I took a picture. It's a Spice Cake box mix with canned vanilla icing that she tinted orange. The stem is an ice cream cone that she had to pay .32 for at McDonald's because she didn't want to buy a whole box of them at the grocery store. Isn't that funny? Anyway, it turned out so cute!!!

Today I'm participating in Met Monday over at Between Naps on the Porch. I try to change the display in my garage for each season. Because the way our house is laid out, most guests come in through the garage. The last time I changed it was July 4th, so with Fall just around the corner I changed it to reflect Autumn, which arrives on Tuesday. I love everything about Fall...the wonderful colors of reds, oranges, greens...the leaves falling and changing colors...trips to the mountains...the smell of leaves burning...all the festivals in small towns...temperatures falling...warm sweaters and socks....and a fire in the fireplace. Met Monday - Fall Front Door

I put some of my fall items on my front porch this weekend. I'm not finished yet, but this is a start. I got the arrangement that is on my front door at Michael's with my 50 percent off coupon, so it wasn't too bad. I also got the fake mums there too. I'm really tired of trying to keep the real ones alive and they don't seem to last that long, so I chose the fake ones. I hope they don't look too bad plus you really can't tell from the road. The garland has orange lights in it and it's really pretty at night. I know it probably sounds kinda tacky, but it really is pretty. Outdoor Wednesday - Neighborhood Dogs

This is what I see when I step outside my house. The neighborhood dogs. I love them, because they're not mine. Just like other peoples kids....you can feed them, play with them and send them back home. They live at the three houses across the street, but you would think that they are all brothers and sisters. One of the boxers - Alex lives in one house, the other boxer - Mac, lives in the other house and the two chihuahuas - George (the brown one) and Bella (the black one) lives in the third house. They all play together all day. So when you are outside, they all come running over expected to be petted and fed. Of course, I do that. I feed them alot! They all line up like soldiers and wait for their treat. They just roam from house to house and everyone takes care of them. They are a great asset to the neighborhood, because they know all of the cars and they will let you know when a strange car is coming. They are all very harmless, but they do scare off any unwanted visitors, because they look mean, especially the boxers. What is lurking outside your front door? It's been so long since I've posted. I guess you could say I've been busy getting ready for Fall. Some mornings it does feel like Fall here and I am so looking forward to it. First, I've changed my mantle to put me in the mood and I've also started burning my "pie" candles. You know the ones that smell like pumpkin, spices, and apples. I've done some more things around the house too but I'll have to post them later. I'm also going to take some pictures of my sister's house and my Mama's and my niece's house. Outdoor Wednesday - Carolina Panthers

I'm participating in Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan at A Southern Daydreamer. I don't know where everyone else lives but it's been soooooooo hot here in North Carolina this week. I mean 95 and 100 degree days. Anyway, our Pro Football team here is called the Carolina Panthers and they have their training camp this week. Hubby and Travis went to it Monday and they said it was so hot that they didn't know how they practiced. Can you imagine practicing in that heat with all that equipment on? I would pass out. Travis had his picture made with Coach Fox and our quarterback, Jack Delhomme. The teams owner, Jerry Richardson, who used to be an NFL player himself, was also there, but he just had a heart transplant not long ago and he rode around in a golf cart. Today is Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. Please visit her for more make-overs. Hubby just finished painting my front door red and I love it. He started painting it one morning while I was at work and didn't take a picture of it before he started. I do blame myself because he would have never thought to do that. Anyway, I searched through my pictures and found one last year when it snowed and I tried to zoom in so you can kinda see how the door looked before, but it wouldn't let me do it for some reason. So if you click on the picture, you can see a close up. It was stained and the storm door was also stained, which I took it down all together. I might get me a white storm door but for right now, I am enjoying it just like it is.

I know that Summer is not yet over, but Fall and Winter are my favorite times of the year. My favorite store, Jerry's, have started getting their Fall items in and I bought this picture there that I have been looking at for months. It's fairly large and it was hard to get a good shot of it since it's in a hallway, but hopefully you can see it pretty good. There's snow on the ground and it's nice to look at when it's 90 degrees outside. I've started decorating a little bit for fall already by burning some of my candles that smell like fall. I can't wait for it to get cooler so I can put the rest of my decorations out. If you live nearby, please go check out Jerry's because they have the BEST stuff and the BEST prices around. Here is a picture of the unwilling-not-wanting-their-pictures-taken owners. They didn't want their pictures made but I insisted, especially after I knocked something off up there today and broke it. New Police Car

I know I blogged about our new Police Dodge Charger a few months ago and how proud all of the officers are with it. Well this week we got another new one and its even bigger. It's a 2008 Tahoe that one of our Sergeants will be driving. The wonderful thing is, both of them were bought with drug money from previous arrests. Taxpayers didn't have to pay anything for them. It pays to be on top of their job.

I got the pleasure this weekend of meeting one of my blogging friends in person. Well, I call her my friend, even though we have never met, but I do follow her blog, therefore I consider her my friend. She has a cute little shop not far from my house in a town called Pilot Mountain, here in North Carolina. The name of her store is Pilot Mountain Peddlers. If it sounds familiar, you might recognize it from the Andy Griffith Show as Mt. Pilot. Andy grew up not far from there in Mount Airy, NC. Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. Her name is Tammy and she is just the sweetest person. Me, Mama and Tina went there this weekend and she has really cute stuff. If anyone lives near by you should definitely go visit her. Today I am participating in Foodie Friday at Designs by Gollum. You must go over and see all of the delicious recipes from other bloggers. I am sharing a recipe that I have for homemade Thousand Island Dressing. It's much better than the bottled kind from the grocery store and only takes a few minutes to whip up. You'll have to try it. Here is the recipe:

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 T. ketchup
1 T. white vinegar
2 t. sugar
2 t. sweet pickle relish
1 t. finely minced white onion
1/8 t. salt
dash of black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir to blend. Refrigerate.

Here is a picture of some of our tomatoes from our garden (and when I say garden, I mean 3 tomato plants out behind the house). The pictures don't do them justice, because they are really bright red and delicious! Around here, there are produce stands and farmer's market's everywhere. People grow everything and bring it to sell. This particular stand is at my Mama's neighbors house and I thought it was so cute. These are usually the hours around here in the summer time....Open Sunup till Sundown!!! and if no one is at home, there is a mason jar where you just put your money in and take what you want. These are some pictures from Myrtle Beach, SC. We've been going there every year since I've been born. We're leaving in a couple of days so I was just looking at some pictures from several years ago. Look at the service that you now get on the beach....anything from drinks to suntan lotion. You never have to leave your seat. How convenient!!! This is something that I made up for the 4th of July. This is my side door coming in from the garage. I think this is one of the hardest areas to decorate. I change it seasonally and try to make it more appealing from the outside, because this is were most people come into my house at. Of course, sometimes, things get knocked off this table because of basketballs hitting it, carrying groceries into the house or Hubby running into it, because he acts like it has never been there before.

Pecan Pie

There is nothing that we like better in the summertime, in the South, than a good, ole pecan pie. What makes this recipe so good is the texture of the pecans. They have to be chopped really, really good....none of those whole pecans in my pie. This is my Mama's recipe that she has had since the 60's. It is very easy and really good. It makes two, so you can take one somewhere and leave the other one at home to enjoy. For more recipes, visit Foodie Friday over at Designs by Gollum. These are the ingredients:

1 stick butter
1 cup karo syrup
1 cup sugar
1/2 t. salt
3 eggs, beaten
2 cups chopped pecans

Mix together first 4 ingredients and cook until dissolved. Beat the eggs until they foam. Mix together all of the ingredients and pour into 2 unbaked pie shells. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 min.

Billy Graham Museum

This is the new Billy Graham Museum that we visited last year in Charlotte, NC. It's only an hour away and it was around Thanksgiving, so they had it decorated for Christmas. He is from here so this is his boyhood home that they moved there from not far away. They built a museum that houses all of his memorabilia. It's a walk-through self-guided tour with slide shows and pictures of him with all kinds of famous people. Then a book store where you can purchase items. This is also where Ruth Graham is buried. It was really really cold out that day, so we didn't walk around much outside. It is probably really pretty this time of year with all of the flowers blooming. These are my finds at the Goodwill store on Saturday. I think it turned out to be a pretty good haul myself. The cake stand was only 1.00, which I think I will paint black and find a cloche to go on top of it. The heart and dove napkins rings were only 1.00. The green wire basket was 2.00. The little black lantern was 1.00 and this 20 piece silverware set was on 4.00. I thought I might do a 4th of July table setting with them. Father's Day 2009

We had a busy Father's Day yesterday. We went to my parents and then to his parents, which is about an hour and a half away. But Hubby got to see his two brothers and their families and their new addition. My nephew and his wife just had a new baby and he is 1 month old. His name is Aidan. Travis got some practice in. He held him until he went to sleep.

Happy Father's Day 2009

This is Hubby's 21st year of being a father and still to this day he is the best daddy anyone could ever ask for. Here's why:

1. He has more patience than anyone I know, (especially with me) or Travis.
2. He hardly ever gets upset.
3. I stayed home with Travis until he was 12, and then I went back to work, but he was and still is a daddy's boy....even after I birthed him, fed him, took him every where to keep him entertained during the summer, took him to school, picked him up, helped with homework (best I could) and he STILL wanted his daddy!
4. When he was first born, Hubby couldn't wait to get home to him after work
5. He played with him, fed him his supper, played some more, gave him his bath, played some more and read to him and put him to bed. You can see by the pictures above that they still wrestle like when he was little.
6. We had an agreement when he was born, that since I didn't work, I would get up during the night with him during the week and he would get up on weekend's. NOT!! He got up with him during the night and when I woke up in the mornings, he had washed his bottles, refilled them and put them in the refrigerator for the next day.
7. He went to ALL the parent/teacher conferences at school. I don't think I ever went to another one after 3rd grade. There wasn't any need to because I could never get in a word.
8. He helped with ALL the homework, especially math (not my best subject).
9. Travis tells him way more stuff than he does me, and he can keep a secret!
10. He also spoils me as well: washes my car, pumps my gas, still opens my car door for me, goes shopping (sometimes just to carry the packages), eats my supper even if it's not his favorite, goes to chick flicks if I insist, and looks after me when I'm sick.

Like I said, he is the best father, and the best husband, in the world and Travis and I couldn't ask for any better than him, plus, Travis has inherited his really blue eyes.

Anyway, Me, Hubby and Travis went hiking on Stone Mountain (NC). We walked up trails...it's not like we scaled the side of the mountain. It's only about 30 minutes from our house, so it was just an afternoon trip. We climbed to the very top and it was such a beautiful view up there. Of course we had to rest before the trip back down. I don't know if this post actually goes along with Metamorphasis Monday, but I guess in my head it does. My son was pushing my sister's son around the yard in the wheelbarrow the other day. When I saw it I had to run get my camera, because it reminded me of me pushing my sister around the yard in the wheelbarrow except it was 30 years ago. Oh my gosh! I can't believe it's been that long! Thank goodness it's not a very good picture or my sister would kill me. It was the 70's, what do you expect. So I guess what I'm trying to say is our sons metamorphasized (is that a word) into us doing the same thing all those years ago. I love it when my blogger friends write books. Well, I feel like they're my friends anyway, even though we've never met. I always buy their books because I feel like I know them. Two books that I bought recently are The Farm Chicks In the Kitchen by Teri Edwards and Serena Thompson of the Farm Chicks and Stitched in Time by Alicia Paulson of Posy Gets Cozy. They are both wonderful books! Also Tara Frey is coming out with one on August 4th, titled Blogging For Bliss. I will definitely buy this one also. You should check out their blogs and also their books. It makes me want to write one too, but I have no idea what it would be...rambling on about something I guess!

Cracker Barrel

I have been looking at this birdhouse for a while now, but I could not see myself paying $30.00 for it....never! Well, guess what? It was on the porch sale marked down to $8.00. I about knocked someone (that someone being Mama) down to get to it. There was only 2 and she bought the other one. I love it!

Today I have a recipe for pound cake that my sister, Tina, made last nite and sent over. It was warm and delicious! She said that it's really easy to make (my kind of recipe). Pound Cake

1 cup Crisco shortening

1 stick margarine (4 ounces)

3 cups sugar

6 large eggs, room temperature

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons vanilla

1. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease & flour a 12-cup Bundt pan.

2. Cream margarine and Crisco shortening in electric stand mixer until light and fluffy. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.

3. In a separate bowl, stir flour and salt together. Add flour alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

4. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour and 25 minutes, or just until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Check early to avoid overbaking.

5. Cool in pan about 5 minutes. Then remove from pan and cool completely.

My Favorite Paint Color Party

The Keys

Anyway, I had this frame and some scrapbooking paper and I just glued the keys to the paper. Look how it turned out....for absolutely nothing.

Here are some pictures of my mailbox. Yes, there is a mailbox under there! We put the brickwork around it several years ago, but the mailman kept hitting them. So then we moved them back. That was a job! I still don't think that they are even, but Hubby said that he was NOT moving them again! My clematis vine is finally blooming and I planted some Vinca around it. Foodie Friday

This recipe for Banana Bread is delicious! It disappeared very quickly around here, plus it's so easy to make. That's the kind of recipes that I like....short and sweet!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Wet ingredients:

1/2 stick butter, softened

2 eggs

3 bananas - mashed

2/3 cup sugar

Dry ingredients:

Mix together 1 1/3 cup flour

3/4 t. salt

1/2 t. baking soda

1/4 t. baking powder

1/2 t. cinnamon

Combine wet and dry ingredients and pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees. For more scrumptious recipes please visit Designs by Gollum.

The Ritz-Carlton - Washington DC

Yes, I'm still talking about our trip this past weekend to Washington. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I'm just letting you know that I highly recommend it. It was extra extra nice. Everyone was so attentive and everytime you walked by, one of the employees asked if you needed anything or directions. We never moved our car the whole weekend. Actually I never saw it again. They took it when we arrived and brought it back when we left along with complimentary bottles of water to take with us. We stayed on the 16th floor and had a wonderful view of the city. They furnished us robes and we had chocolate on our pillows every night before we went to bed. What a treat! It was also attached to a 4-story mall! Now you can imagine that I was in heaven!!! The metro/subway entrance was also in the hotel, so we never had to go look for one. I remember telling Hubby and Travis on the way back from a tiring day...I sure am glad that we just have to get off the metro and go upstairs. It was a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely stay there again.

Here are a few shots from our trip to Washington this past weekend. I have never walked so much in my whole life. Not only were my feet sore, but my hips were too. That has never happened before! We saw so much in a weekend and we took plenty of pictures. I won't bore you with all of them. (That is all at once) We did get a shot of President Obama leaving the White House for Camp David on his helicopter though. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day, which always signals the start of summer for me: opening the pool up, wearing white shoes and accessories and my clematis blooming around my mailbox. It rained ALL day here yesterday, but believe it or not, it quit for an hour for us to have a cook out at Mama and Daddy's.

While in Washington we visited Arlington National Cementary. They had put flags on ALL of the graves for Memorial Day. We watched the Changing of the Guard, which was very interesting. We also saw the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and John F. Kennedy's Grave with the eternal flame. Let's all remember the soldiers that lost their lives for our country as well as the one's that fought in the wars.

Vacation

We are leaving today for Washington DC for a short vacation. I'll be back on Monday with plenty of pictures. But don't worry, I won't put them all on here! Outdoor Wednesday

These are the eggs that I blogged about last week...the ones at work. They finally hatched this week. They are all cuddled up together. Isn't this sweet? It's been cool here for the past couple of days, so they need to stay close together to keep warm. I still don't know what they are though. Melissa's Birthday

I took my friend, Melissa out to eat at Macaroni Grill for her birthday this weekend. We have known each other since the 1st grade. It's so nice to have friends that you can consider family. She is a sign language teacher at one of our local schools and she loves it. She has also never met a stranger - full of fun!!!!

Met Monday

We are finally finished with the kitchen cabinets. Yay! We just have to put some finishing touches on, but the majority of it is complete. I know ya'll are sick of hearing about it. After we painted, I put up the word wall over the cabinets to match the monogram over the sink. Then we put on new cabinet knobs and drawer pulls and changed the hinges. I also added wooden medallions on the cabinet doors. Then I lightly painted them. I really like how they turned out. For more Met Mondays, please visit Between Naps on the Porch.

New Toy

Look at my new "toy" I bought yesterday. I love it!!! Several drawbacks though...I had to use Hubby's contract which was the only one that was up for renewal. When I did that I had to take over his number which now I have his work calling ME and I had to get him a new number, which he is so THRILLED about, because he has to call all those people with his new number. Sorry Hubs! Then the iphone comes with its own sim card, so now I have to put all of my numbers in my new phone instead of just transferring them over. But I guess it will be worth it. Right now I'm lovin' it!! I've already ordered me an Ed Hardy cover for it. I'm lovin' me some Mr. Ed.....can't wait until it comes. I'm very impatient!

Graduation Day

Yesterday Travis graduated from Surry Community College with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice. We are so proud of him! He's getting his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner Webb with one semester already down. So now we have 2 years down and 2 years to go. Yay!!!

Bird's Eggs

This is what happened to me yesterday morning: I'm pulling in the parking lot at work and there is a squirrel running up the drive in front of me with a bird on its back. Of course I'm thinking of all days not to have my camera with me! I pull in my parking place and watch them. The squirrel is running and the bird is on his back flogging him. The squirrel runs up a fence and then jumps in a tree and the bird is right behind him. The squirrel runs way up high in the tree and of course the bird is right there, but then the bird flies away. I'm thinking now that's the weirdest thing I have ever seen. A few minutes later one of my co-workers comes in my office holding a blue egg. She said look what I found in the parking lot. Wonder were it came from because there are no trees in the parking lot. I said oh my gosh....that squirrel must have had that egg and that's why the bird was so upset. So we went outside and looked around where the squirrel had run from and we found a nest in a bush. I don't know if the egg fell out or the squirrel climbed in after it. At lunch I went home and got my camera and came back and took this picture. I love the color of these speckled eggs. I don't know what kind of bird it is. I think it was a grey color because it flew out when we approached the bush. We laid the egg in the nest hoping she would take care of it. We don't even know if it is hers or not, but I'm gonna keep a check on it. Anyway, I thought it was quite interesting.
